My New Garden

My New Garden?

It began like this...

Recently (well almost two years ago) I moved into a brand new home, and have since been slightly obsessed with establishing my new garden.  Many people would be happy to roll out some sod, plunk in a few trees and shrubs, and call it a day….not me!

The prospect of starting from scratch and designing the garden to suit me (and my family) has kept me up nights, mulling over things like where exactly the sun will track, how bad the drainage actually is, and whether the slight increase in altitude from my previous home will prove deadly to some of my tender plants.

My journey from the flat, bare 1/3 of an acre lot to the young but flourishing garden I have today has been a ton of work, but one of the most satisfying jobs I have undertaken.

I remember the first time we drove through this developing neighborhood, and my husband said the fateful words,”Maybe we should just build!”

About hortophile

I am a very opinionated, slightly obsessed gardener with decades of experience in the retail nursery industry. A lucky resident of the "Wet Coast" of British Columbia I tread a muddy path between practicality and beauty, with my veggie patch, herb garden and fruits vying for position with the beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers that I can't resist. DON'T ask me to choose between them! I believe in environmental responsibility and common sense.
