A long hot summer has resulted in glorious fall colours on the west coast.  Interestingly I noticed while visiting about three hours south of my home last weekend that the pace of change is not markedly different between here and there.

Usually there is about a two week differential – we’re two weeks behind in the spring and two weeks ahead during fall.  But the trees down-island were at the same stage of brilliant loveliness as they are here.  Except that I could see more drought damage down there, we did get just a teeny bit more moisture than they over August and September.  Meaning we actually got a little, whereas they had none…

About hortophile

I am a very opinionated, slightly obsessed gardener with decades of experience in the retail nursery industry. A lucky resident of the "Wet Coast" of British Columbia I tread a muddy path between practicality and beauty, with my veggie patch, herb garden and fruits vying for position with the beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers that I can't resist. DON'T ask me to choose between them! I believe in environmental responsibility and common sense.
