I am fussy about growing only those crops that we enjoy eating, why give valuable garden space to things that nobody wants to eat? Sometimes a recipe inspires me to try growing a new vegetable, and sometimes the reverse happens; I grow a lot of something and have to experiment with new recipes in an effort to make use of all the produce!
Over the years I’ve accumulated a few family favourites. There is absolutely nothing better than serving a dish whose main ingredient(s) began as a seed you nurtured, coddled and babied into luscious maturity, harvested at the peak of its flavour and nutritional value, and prepared on the same day.
Unless it’s that same produce that I’ve preserved in a pickle or jam, canned or frozen, appearing on our table in midwinter, when fresh produce is expensive and hard to find.
When my family checks in with a “what’s for dinner, oh YUM!” it warms me to the cockles of my “Suzy Homemaker” heart. How did I become so domestic?
I’m certainly no chef, but here are a few recipes I’ve stumbled upon and developed to suit our tastes, that I would be proud to serve to anyone. Check back to this page periodically for links to my favourite recipes!
